It Started on a Rainy Tuesday

It started on a rainy Tuesday evening in Kingston, standing at a bus stop, watching Londoners trudge through puddles with the resigned expression of people who'd accepted that their favourite shoes would never quite look the same again.

We'd just spent £180 on a pair of leather brogues. Six weeks later, they looked six years old.
